Time Freedom: Shift from Scarcity to Abundance for Business Success (Business Coaching by Shalece Daniels)

From Scarcity to Abundance: How to Create Time Freedom and Thrive in Business

Introduction: You Didn't Start Your Business to Feel Trapped

Let me ask you this—did you launch your business to feel stuck and overwhelmed? Probably not. You wanted freedom, to create a life as delicious as the business you're building, minus the guilt of stepping away from your laptop. I'm Shalece Daniels, a certified mindset and business coach, and a seven-figure business owner. Through neuroscience-backed rest strategies, I'm here to guide you toward reprioritizing time so you can build both a thriving business and a life that moves to the rhythm of your flow.

I'm writing this from Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, where we're celebrating my parents' 59th wedding anniversary. Amid the celebrations, one thing keeps tugging at me: Time. It's the one resource we can’t get back once it’s spent. Time, though an artificial construct, has the power to create a scarcity mindset. But here's the thing—it doesn't have to. Today, we’re going to explore how shifting your mindset around time can transform not just your life but also your business.

Time: The Scarcity Mindset Trap

You've heard it a million times: Time is money. We live by deadlines, are constantly checking the clock, and stress over every minute lost. This way of thinking has permeated our entire existence, making us feel like time is running out before we even start.

Where does this scarcity mindset come from?

It starts young. Think back—how many times as a child were you rushed out the door to make it on time for school, church, or Aunt Mary’s wedding? Long before we understood concepts like money or success, we learned that time was something to chase, something we never seemed to have enough of. This subconscious programming follows us into adulthood and shows up in our businesses, too.

The scarcity mindset around time limits our potential. When you're constantly telling yourself, I don't have enough time, you send a message that reinforces lack, not just in your schedule, but in your entire life. It doesn't just affect how you feel; it directly influences the success of your business.

The Power of a Mindset Shift: Reframing Time for Abundance

You get what you think about, and that includes time. If you're always surrounded by thoughts or people complaining about not having enough time, guess what? You're going to feel just as frantic and depleted.

But what if you changed that narrative? What if instead of thinking, I ran out of time, you reframed it to I chose to prioritize this? You suddenly shift from victim to Father Time, to being in the driver’s seat. You hold the reins. This is more than just positive thinking—this is taking ownership of your life.

For example:

When my kids would say, "I don't want to get a bad grade in science," I’d teach them to reframe it. Instead, they’d say, I want to feel confident that I will do my best in science. The words we use create our reality. Reframing is powerful because it forces us to think proactively and control the controllables.

Time Doesn’t Control You—You Control Time

By telling yourself I didn’t plan well, instead of I ran out of time, you begin to take back control. The moment you own that mistake, you reclaim the power to change your actions moving forward. You shift from being a passive participant in life to someone who actively shapes their future.

How often have you met a tight deadline without even knowing how you did it? In college, for instance, you probably wrote that paper at the last minute and still managed to get it done. That's because, when it’s crunch time, we find a way. But what if you didn’t have to work under pressure to get the same results? What if you could tap into that energy whenever you needed it?

The Game Changer: Shifting from Scarcity to Abundance

This is where the real magic happens: when you begin to think of time as abundant, it shows up for you in that way. Imagine giving yourself an extra five minutes in the morning to wake up slowly, savor a cup of coffee, or meditate. That simple act sends a message to the universe that you have time, and it starts showing up more abundantly in your life.

When I first embraced this mindset, I felt like a beginner—I'm still learning. But the more I shifted, the more I saw time doing what I wanted. I started planning meetings later in the day to create space for the things that energized me. I learned to organize my days with intention, using tools like the 12-week year and ChatGPT to structure my time around what mattered most.

Practical Steps to Take Back Control Over Your Time

Let’s get into the how. Here’s a roadmap you can use today to start taking ownership of your time and shifting to an abundance mindset.

1. Set Time Limits for Non-Creative Tasks

When you're in a creative flow, you don’t want to stop. But for those routine, non-creative tasks, set a time limit. I recommend using the Pomodoro method (yes, I know—eye roll). Turn on a timer and say, Hey Siri, set a timer for 20 minutes. After those 20 minutes are up, take a quick break.

2. Prioritize with Intention

Every morning (or the night before), jot down the top three things you absolutely must get done. I call this eating the frog. The biggest, ugliest task? Tackle that first. Once you’ve conquered that, you’ll feel empowered to move through the rest of your day.

3. Batch Your Tasks

Don’t scatter your focus. If you're working on creating a website, for example, group all related tasks together. Instead of jumping from one thing to another, focus on completing everything related to that task in a set amount of time. This keeps you efficient and focused.

4. Schedule Rest

Yes, you heard me. Schedule rest as an intentional part of your day. Have a list of things that recharge you—dancing, painting, meditating, taking a walk. When your timer goes off after a focused work session, choose something from your rest list and actually do it. Resting isn’t wasted time; it’s where your next great idea comes from.

The Universe Responds to Your Energy: Living Abundantly

Time is not something you're chasing—it's yours to command. When you begin to see time as abundant, the universe shifts with you.I started living this truth about a year ago, and let me tell you, it has made all the difference.

Now, instead of scrambling to fit everything into a day, I plan my tasks around my energy. If I know my creative juices flow best in the morning, I’ll block out that time for writing, designing, or brainstorming. By lunchtime, I’m already ahead of the game. In the afternoon, I focus on more routine tasks, but I do it with intention and care.

Remember this: You’re not just managing time—you’re living abundantly. When you take ownership of how you spend your time, you tell the universe, I deserve this. And guess what? It listens.
