I used to wake up before the sun with a head full of tasks and a body running on fumes.
Hustle was my default. Rest was a luxury I thought I had to earn.
But one morning, that changed. I downloaded a 13-minute gratitude audio for $7.98. I didn’t think much of it at first. But it became a ritual that would completely shift the way I led my company, and more importantly, the way I led myself.
That $7.98 became the most profitable purchase of my career.
From Wake and Grind to Wake and Align
Back then, I scheduled 7 AM meetings like I was training for the Marines. Now? My meetings don’t start before 10. My morning starts with stillness, not Slack.
My ritual is simple:
1. No alarm clock. I let my body decide when it’s ready.
2. Gratitude meditation. I play Rich With Gratitude, and say five things I’m grateful for.
3. Journaling. I write those five things down before anything digital.
4. Movement and nourishment. I stretch, sip warm matcha, and step outside for one grounding breath.
The old me would’ve scoffed at this. But the old me also used to call burnout “being driven.”
When I slowed down, the big opportunities sped up.
Clients found me.
Five-figure speaking invites rolled in.
My business grew, but more importantly, I did.
Not because I was doing more. But because I was finally aligned.
Rest gave me space to see clearly again — what mattered, what didn’t, and what I had outgrown.
As Harvard Business Review notes, “strategic rest improves memory, creativity, and decision-making” — the exact skills CEOs are expected to bring to the table (Harvard Business Review).
It wasn’t just a better morning. It was a better life.
Try It Tomorrow
Before you check your inbox, try this:
Put your phone across the room.
When you wake, say “thank you” before anything else.
Name five things you’re grateful for.
Journal them.
Breathe. Move. Begin.
It costs nothing but your attention. And it may bring everything you've been chasing.
Gift the Journal for Entrepreneurs to someone who’s ready to lead with clarity.

Build a business that works for you, not because of you.
Lead in a way your nervous system can live with.
